Dining at Addison raises an important question: how much is perfection worth?
Located within the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, Addison represents one of the most exclusive dining experiences in Southern California. Having previously dined at Per Se, I approached this experience with high expectations—and Addison certainly delivers.
The level of detail is astonishing. Every element, from the table setting to the final dessert, is executed with precision. The tasting menu is carefully structured, guiding you through a journey of flavors and textures.
Compared to Per Se, Addison feels more structured. There is a clear sense of direction, as if every moment has been planned in advance. This can be both a strength and a limitation.
The food is exceptional. Some dishes rival the best I’ve ever had, showcasing incredible technique and creativity. However, unlike Per Se, where consistency is almost guaranteed, Addison occasionally experiments—and not every experiment lands perfectly.
Service is impeccable, though slightly more formal than at Per Se. The staff maintains a level of professionalism that borders on theatrical.
Then there’s the price. Dining here is not just expensive—it’s an investment. With wine pairings, the cost can easily exceed expectations.
So, is it worth it?
If you value precision, artistry, and luxury, the answer is yes. But if you’re looking for something more relaxed or emotionally engaging, you may find yourself questioning the cost.
